I read a quote from former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres. He said, and I quote, “If a problem has no solution, it may not be a problem, but a fact, not to be solved but to be coped with over time.”. This really made me stop and think. If you spend any time thinking about it, you will find clarity and rethink how you deal with things that come up in your day-to-day life. Sort out the problems from the facts. If they are facts, accept them and deal with them. Digest, absorb, and move on from facts, both old and new. If it is truly a problem, then find a solution and remove the problem from your life.
Christian author and counselor Regi Campbell said, “Sure, we sometimes jump to conclusions, assuming facts to be true that aren’t. But it may be more exhausting, frustrating, distracting, and wasteful trying to solve the problem unsolvable”. He goes on to give us 3 examples:
- Something about your spouse is not exactly like you want it to be. Instead of accepting these things as facts, you ruin your marriage trying to solve this problem.
- There is a wound down deep inside you, something that happened to you, or something you did way back when. Forgive the one who did it, even if that someone is you. We can forgive anyone for anything because our savior forgave us of everything. And just as Jesus does for us, once you truly forgive, you must forget!
- Something your father said you’ve never been able to put away. Some dads have said mean, thoughtless, life-altering things to us as we were growing up. That’s a fact, not a problem. You do not need to live up to them or live them down.
Learn to differentiate problems from facts. Find a solution for one and learn to cope with the other. You will find it will remove a lot of stress from your life. God gave us all free will. Everything you do is a choice. Just choose to live an awesome life. Even little things like waking up in the morning and being grumpy are a choice. You make some choices unconsciously, but when you start to understand the concept of free will, it will affect your choices in all areas of your life. Including problems and facts. Here is a great place to start. Take a minute and pray this prayer;
- Holy Spirit, please help me see facts and give me the courage to cope with them. I need discernment, so I don’t waste my precious days trying to solve problems that aren’t problems. Thank You for being my faithful guide to the peace and grace of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Have an amazing day.
