2021 is now in the past as is our first race of 2022. The challenges continued for our sport in 2021. Numbers were down across the board. For the first time in over 7 years and 30 plus races, we put runners on a course that was not accurately measured. Twice! In two weeks. There is nobody to blame but me and my team. We screwed up! Simple as that! We caught a lot of flack. Deservedly so. Howl at the Moon to this day remains a mystery. At the Publix Half Marathon/5K, we know exactly what happened. The coursed was measured perfectly. Our team was tuning runners a half-mile early on one of the boulevard cut-throughs. When we realized what was happening, about 30 or so runners had already turned. We made the decision to let everyone run the same course. So the Publix Half was only 12.1 miles. The Publix 5K was spot on at 3.1 miles! The after-party was great. The beer was ice cold, R Anthony rocked and the stadium was amazing. The part of those last 2 events, in 2021, that did not get much attention was the fact that we raised $4,000 for the Jessica Costanzo Scholarship Fund and over $10,000 for the Venice High School band and its kids! That is what these races are all about.
To all of you that helped us raise over $14,000 in two events for the kids of Venice, Thank you!
Our first race of 2022 went perfectly. Everything about the race was awesome. Our 5K loop course was right on at 3.1 miles, and fast. Ian Walsh ran a My Favorite Race Event record of 15:41.
Our next race is the Kia of Port Charlotte Half Marathon/5K presented by Fit2Run. It benefits Holly’s Hope and Light House Restoration. You will love our USATF Certified course. The afterparty will be one of the best ever and all the perks you have come to expect from a My Favorite Race Events race will be provided as well.
Thanks for running our races and supporting our charities!
